CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, May 26, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions and Brigham Young University-Hawaii today announced the completion of a campus-wide renewable energy system that includes rooftop solar energy storage, carport and battery.

Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions, an unregulated trademark of Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK), designed and built the renewable energy system and battery energy storage system containing the Tesla Megapacks.

The estimated annual electricity generation of the entire project will be 6.37 megawatt hours, enough to meet approximately 39% of the university’s energy needs each year.

“This project has made BYU-Hawaii more environmentally friendly and reduced our environmental impact,” said Kevin Schlag, Vice President of Operations. “The combination of solar and battery storage is a smart solution that will allow us to support our students and their education in a more sustainable way potentially saving the university on $20 million utility costs over the lifetime of the system. »

Located on 100 acres at Laie on the island of OahuThe university’s renewable energy project consists of three rooftop solar installations, five campus-wide solar carports, including its main parking lot, and 7,324.8 kWh of battery storage.
